Stalybridge

A masterplan for the regeneration of the Castle Street area in the heart of Stalybridge, restoring a derelict Grade II listed cotton mill and providing a new contemporary building.

Challenge:
To regenerate the site in the centre of Stalybridge, incorporating a derelict cotton mill, and provide the client with a maximum of diversity, character and choice for potential buyers.

Solution:
We proposed a new contemporary building, echoing the massing of a mill that previously sat on the site, whilst the restoration of the derelict Grade II listed cotton mill draws a clear distinction between the original buildings and the new interventions. The aim was to recreate the scale of the original courtyard and provide continuity with the history of the site.
